News About Hormone Replacement Therapy
Many of us have heard the stories of health, rejuvenation and the
latest medical news highlighting the health benefits of bio-identical hormone therapy or HRT including Human Growth Hormone and Testosterone, especially the use of HGH Injections and Testosterone Injections for treating Low T.
Natural (Bio-Identical) hormone therapy can be healthier and even more effective than animal-derived hormone replacement therapies.
Millions of patients and health care providers
alike paid very close attention when the federal government’s
National Institutes of Health released findings from a major
clinical trial warning of the risks associated with animal-derived chemical hormones, a widely
used type of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that combined
two female hormones, estrogen and progestin. Since then, an overwhelming number of physicians, endocrinologists, urologists and their patients have switched over to using the more healthy, natural or bio-identical form of hormone therapy.

Testosterone: Is Testosterone The Fountain of Youth for Men?
News Analysis of Breaking Hormone Therapy News Online
Testosterone has become one of the go-to prescriptions for men in their 50s and older. Some men even call it the fountain of youth, but studies show that we need to weigh the risks and the benefits for patients.
The reality is that many men in their mid-thirties and early forties are making Testosterone the 'go to drug' because testosterone levels can drop significantly enough to cause health and sexual problems including
loss of sex drive, erectile dysfunction, rapid weight gain, muscle loss, extreme fatigue, severe moodiness, memory loss, insomnia, night sweats, lethargy, social withdrawal and depression.
Men's natural testosterone levels decrease about 1 percent each year starting at the age of 35. So, by the time they hit their 50s, patients often complain of symptoms like low libido, fatigue, memory loss and a loss of desire to socialize.
When patients bring these issues to the attention of their doctors, they are often prescribed testosterone treatments in the form of a gel, injections or a patch. But it's important to see a urologist before starting any testosterone therapy to get a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test and check the size of your prostate.
Many men find the gels and patches ineffective and opt for the testosterone injections either in the cypionate or enanthate form. The reason for this is that gels are messy and can transfer easily to women and children. In addition, many men have absorption issues with gels making them less potent than these men need to feel a difference from their testosterone therapy.
Patches can also have absorption problems but most men complain of irritation and rashes from the dermal patch contact with their skin.
Your urologist will also check your testosterone levels to see if they are normal - anywhere between 300-1200 ng/dl. These levels are typically checked early in the morning because circadian rhythms cause your testosterone to be higher in the morning and lower in the afternoon.
The testosterone level that really needs to ascertained is your FREE Testosterone level as opposed to just the TOTAL Testosterone level. This is because only the Free Testosterone is available or 'bio-available' for use by your body.
So, theoretically, you could could have a relatively high or normal TOTAL testosterone level and a very low FREE testosterone level which will cause you to experience the symptoms of Low T.
Testosterone levels that drop too low can lead to metabolic syndrome. But it's also important to make sure if you are prescribed testosterone therapy, that your levels don't get too high as this can double your risk for heart attack.
Studies show that 25 percent of men currently on testosterone therapy have never had their blood levels checked, which is a scary thought, considering the risks.
That is why a Testosterone Replacement Therapy program should always be supervised by an experienced, licensed medical doctor with years of experience implementing male hormone therapy protocols.
These specialized physicians or testosterone hormone specialists know how formulate a proper testosterone program including dosage, medical follow-up and hormone blood testing, nutrition and exercise.
Certain conditions can increase your risk for low testosterone like:
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Cholesterol problems
- Depression
- Fatigue
- Low libido
Obesity is a major factor for some patients suffering from low testosterone. Belly fat contains enzymes that convert testosterone to estrogen. Gynecomastia, or the growth of abnormally large breasts in males, is a result of increasing estrogen levels in the body.
It's important to remember that low libido is different than sexual dysfunction. Sexual dysfunction is treated with prescription pills like Viagra, Cialis or Levitra. You may have the drive, but you are enduring a mechanical problem.
Loss of sexual desire, on the other hand, often comes down to testosterone. So low libido and sexual dysfunction are different diseases that need to be treated with different treatments.
What many men experience is that the male enhancement therapy pills don't work well because in order for them to work a man needs sufficient levels of testosterone in his system. If a man is suffering from Low T or hypogonadism (Andropause), then he is testosterone deficient and the only way to normalize his hormone levels may be
to start a program of testosterone replacement. If a man thinks he is low on testosterone, he should get checked by getting a simple, fast blood test.
Testosterone therapy can be great for some patients, but the most important thing to remember is that your doctor should be monitoring your levels to ensure you receive the benefits, without the risks.

The
weather and your health
For
as long as people have been aware of weather, they've pondered
its impact on their health. The Greeks noted the effect of "hot
and cold winds" on pain and illness 2,400 years ago. During
the Civil War, physicians wrote about amputee soldiers sensing
pain in their "phantom" limbs when the weather changed.
And folk wisdom tells of people who "feel the weather in
their bones."
